Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a conservative and natural healing art and science that concentrates on keeping people well. It involves methods that date back hundreds of years. The main focus for chiropractors involves spinal misalignments, also known as subluxations. These misalignments can cause nerve system dysfunction resulting in various pains throughout the body. Properly aligning the spine allows for nerve signals, to and from the brain, to flow freely improving your body's overall health. A chiropractor takes a more hands on approach to overall wellness. Treatments regularly involve controlled force into joints to restore their proper placement and mobility. A chiropractor may also offer nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

  • How is an adjustment performed?

Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractic physician typically uses his or her hands--or an instrument--to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient's pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.

  • What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Chiropractors can treat a wide range of problems such as but not limited to: back pain, carpal tunnel, migraines and headaches, neck pain and many more. Many pains and discomforts can be traced back to a dysfunction in the nervous system. A chiropractic adjustment can realign the body and allow the nervous system to flow properly. In addition to treating physical pains and/or discomforts a chiropractor may offer nutritional, dietary, or lifestyle advice.

  • Is Chiropractic treatment safe?

Chiropractic is very safe. The approach is drug-free and non-invasive. It's often referred to as therapeutic and can give instant results. The risks involved in chiropractic care are very minimal. Some may feel temporary soreness after a treatment, but this usually fades within 24 hours. The long term results outweigh the short term discomfort. That being said, the majority of patients feel instant relief and find it to be very safe.

  • Can chiropractic be used on children?

Yes. As resilient as many children seem they put their bodies through a lot. Chiropractic is always adapted to fit the patients' needs and it is no different for children. The primary difference in treating children is the applied force. Typically a chiropractor is more gentle on a child versus an adult.
